About Wakara

Built on 20+ years at the intersection of learning & technology

Wakara Technologies is a digital product and learning engineering practice based in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded by Anne Salim — a senior product leader with a career spanning research, EdTech, civic tech, and innovation consulting — Wakara brings together three disciplines that rarely sit in the same room: human-centred design, learning engineering, and evidence-based M&E research.

From scaling Eneza Education to 1.3 million learners, to contributing to OpenCRVS as it was deployed across multiple governments, to leading innovation programmes at iHub and Qhala — the work has always been about building things that actually work for the people using them, in the contexts they live in.

Wakara exists to bring that depth of experience to EdTech leaders, public institutions, and innovation teams who need more than a vendor — they need a thinking partner who can design, build, and evaluate.

The thread running through all of it is a commitment to young people and makers. Waza Experience — a kids maker and hacker camp programme — has been running since 2015 and continues today. The research behind it was presented at TEDx, co-authored with Wachira Ndaiga, and published through iHub Research and ACM.
